Civil 3D ↔ Forma Data Management (cloud CDE + data shortcut projects)

Forma Data Management (formerly Autodesk Docs) is the cloud common data environment Civil 3D saves into: DWG drawings and their XREFs are opened and saved from a Desktop Connector-enabled connected drive instead of a local folder, and project documents are shared from there. On top of that file layer, Autodesk Collaboration for Civil 3D — an entitlement of Forma Design Collaboration — puts the DATA SHORTCUT PROJECT itself in Forma Data Management, so surfaces, alignments, profiles and pipe networks are authored once and referenced by the rest of the team across drawings. Autodesk's own rule is that a data shortcut project and its drawings must live in the same storage environment, which is why the design objects follow the drawings into the CDE rather than staying behind. Bidirectional.
