Tableau ships a Microsoft SQL Server connector, documented on its own page in Tableau Desktop's data-source reference. The same connector is Tableau's route to SQL Server Parallel Data Warehouse, Azure Synapse Analytics and Azure SQL Database, so it is the one Tableau connector covering the whole SQL Server engine family. Tableau reads from the database into a workbook; nothing is written back.
