About
Microsoft SQL Server is a relational database engine a firm runs on its own Windows or Linux servers, or in a container. In AEC it is mostly a destination rather than a tool anyone opens: construction platforms replicate project and financial data into it so reporting runs off one store. Microsoft sells it per core in Enterprise, Standard and Developer editions, and the current release is SQL Server 2025. Azure SQL Database and Azure SQL Managed Instance are separate managed services built on the same engine.
