How Navisworks and Microsoft Project exchange data

Navisworks TimeLiner reads a Microsoft Project schedule as a data source and links its tasks to objects in the federated model, producing a 4D construction sequence and — once costs are attached to tasks — a 5D cost simulation. Two routes are documented: a direct Microsoft Project data source, which needs a copy of Project installed, and MPX file import, which Navisworks reads on its own with no scheduling software present. TimeLiner re-reads the source when the schedule changes, so the simulation updates rather than being rebuilt.
