About

Conceptual design software for roads, rail and transit, bridges, tunnels and water infrastructure, modeled in the context of the existing built and natural environment. It aggregates GIS, imagery and terrain data into a context model, then lets teams iterate design options and run sight-distance, traffic and mobility analysis before detailed design.

How teams use it

By audience

Civil Engineering
  • Civil engineers lay out component and planning roads, intersections and parametric bridges in a context model to compare corridor options early.
  • Engineers run sight-distance and traffic-flow analysis on a design option before committing it to detailed design.
  • Concept roads and civil structures carry forward into Civil 3D (IMX or the local model) and bridges into Revit for detailing.
Designer / Drafter
  • Civil designers build the existing-conditions context model from GIS, imagery and terrain using Model Builder and file data sources.
  • Designers adjust bridge piers, girder spacing and road decorations parametrically, including through the component spreadsheet.
Planning
  • Urban and transportation planners visualize roadway, rail and transit alternatives in their real-world setting for public and stakeholder review.
  • Planners use storyboards and Autodesk Viewer shared views to present design options to non-technical audiences.
Surveying/Geomatics
  • Surveyors supply terrain, point-cloud (ReCap) and GIS layers that form the existing-conditions base of the InfraWorks model.
  • Geospatial teams sync ArcGIS feature layers into the model through the Autodesk Connector for ArcGIS.

By phase

Concept & Planning
  • Teams aggregate site data into a context model and test corridor, alignment and bridge-type alternatives during feasibility.
  • Options are presented to owners and the public with storyboards and shared views before a preferred alternative is chosen.
Design
  • The preferred option is refined in InfraWorks, then exported as IMX to Civil 3D for corridor design and to Revit for bridge detailing and rebar.
  • Design teams publish and synchronize the model to Autodesk Docs so several InfraWorks users can work on it.
