Microsoft ships a first-party Power Query SQL Server connector, at General Availability, supported in Power BI semantic models and dataflows, Fabric Dataflow Gen2, Power Apps dataflows, Excel, Analysis Services and Dynamics 365 Customer Insights. It supports Import and DirectQuery, authenticates with Database, Windows, organizational-account or service-principal credentials, and exposes the instance through the Sql.Database and Sql.Databases functions. Power BI reads from the database; nothing is written back.
