About

Clue is a construction equipment management platform that unifies telematics, GPS, maintenance, rental, and job-cost data from mixed OEM fleets into a single system for heavy-civil and self-perform contractors. It covers preventive maintenance and work orders, mobile inspections, dispatch and rental reconciliation, operator time capture, and utilization and equipment-economics reporting, with an AI assistant that answers fleet questions in natural language. Connectors to 80+ telematics, GPS, CMMS, and ERP systems keep machine hours, fault codes, and equipment cost reconciled against the contractor's existing systems of record.

How teams use it

By audience

Construction Management
  • Gives equipment managers one live view of every machine's location, hours and status across mixed OEM fleets instead of a separate portal per telematics brand.
  • Flags idle and under-utilized assets so machines get redeployed between active jobsites rather than rented in.
  • Drives preventive-maintenance schedules off telematics engine hours, auto-opening work orders when a machine hits its service interval.
  • Reconciles rental invoices against actual on-site utilization to catch machines still being billed after demobilization.
Project Manager
  • Shows which machines are charged to the job and for how many hours, keeping equipment cost visible against the budget mid-project.
  • Pulls timecard and charge-rate data from HCSS HeavyJob to forecast remaining equipment spend on the job.
  • Confirms requested equipment actually arrived and is running, using GPS and engine-hour data instead of calls to the field.
  • Surfaces machine downtime that is driving schedule slip on earthwork and paving operations.
Superintendent
  • Dispatches machines and attachments between jobsites and tracks each move in one place.
  • Shows which assets — owned and rented — are on the site right now without walking the yard.
  • Pushes OEM fault-code and breakdown alerts so a replacement machine can be requested before the crew goes idle.
  • Reviews the operator inspections submitted from the field each morning.
Foreman / Field Supervisor
  • Completes daily walkaround and DOT inspections on a phone, with photos attached to the asset record.
  • Reports a machine problem straight from the field, which opens a work order for the shop.
  • Logs operator time against equipment and cost codes without paper tickets.
  • Checks fuel and service status on assigned machines before the shift starts.
Executive Leadership
  • Tracks fleet-wide utilization and owning-and-operating cost per machine class to inform buy, rent or dispose decisions.
  • Compares equipment cost performance across divisions and regions from one dashboard.
  • Answers fleet questions through the AI assistant in plain language instead of commissioning a report.
  • Monitors telematics-derived idle time and fuel burn as a fleet-efficiency and emissions signal.
Accounting & Finance
  • Feeds equipment hours and rates into job costing so machine time lands on the right cost codes.
  • Reconciles rental invoices against tracked utilization before they are approved for payment.
  • Pushes captured timecards into the ERP or accounting system rather than re-keying them.
  • Tracks parts, service and fuel spend per asset to support owning-and-operating rate setting.

By phase

Pre-Construction
  • Checks fleet availability and utilization before committing owned equipment to an upcoming job, so rental needs surface early.
  • Supplies historical owning-and-operating cost per machine class to the equipment rates used in heavy-civil estimates.
  • Plans mobilization by scheduling which assets move to the site and when.
Construction
  • Tracks equipment location, engine hours and utilization across every active jobsite in real time.
  • Runs preventive-maintenance and breakdown work orders against telematics hours to keep machines producing.
  • Captures daily operator inspections, fuel transactions and machine time from the field.
  • Reconciles machine hours against HCSS HeavyJob timecards so equipment cost charged to the job matches what actually ran.
Closeout & Operations
  • Confirms demobilization and closes out rental agreements so off-hire dates match actual site departure.
  • Rolls up total equipment cost for the job once the fleet has left the site.
  • Feeds lifetime hours, service history and cost per asset into replace-or-retain decisions on the fleet.
