About
Google Maps Platform is Google's set of mapping and location APIs and SDKs, billed through a Google Cloud project. It covers interactive and static maps, geocoding and address validation, routes and travel-time matrices, places data, elevation, Street View and photorealistic 3D map tiles, plus environment APIs such as Solar. Construction and workforce software embeds these services to locate job sites, compute crew commute and drive times, validate addresses and map a portfolio of projects. Engineering and digital-twin platforms stream its 2D and 3D tiles as real-world context around design models.
How teams use it

- Creates the Google Cloud project, billing account and restricted API keys that a firm's own apps and dashboards call Maps Platform with.
- Chooses which APIs to enable, such as Geocoding, Routes or Map Tiles, and watches per-request cost against the monthly credit.
- Supplies the key when a construction tool asks the customer to bring their own Google Maps key for commute or site-location features.
