Pile Installation Recorder
About
The Pile Installation Recorder (PIR) is Pile Dynamics' automated monitoring system for augered cast-in-place (ACIP/CFA) and drilled displacement piles. A unit in the rig cab, a depth sensor and a magnetic flow meter record pumped grout or concrete volume against auger depth in real time, optionally with grout pressure, torque and RPM, so the operator sees target versus actual volume as each pile is placed. An installation log prints on a field printer when the pile is finished, and data can be monitored remotely. The PIR-PLOT desktop software then produces installation and productivity reports with plots of each parameter against depth.
How teams use it
By audience
- Foreman / Field Supervisor
- Rig operators and foremen watch target versus actual grout volume by depth on the cab touch screen while the pile is placed.
- Other Engineering
- Geotechnical and foundation engineers specify the PIR to verify ACIP/CFA pile installation, in line with FHWA GEC #8 and the DFI Augered Cast-In-Place Piles Manual.
- Engineers review PIR-PLOT reports and plots of volume, pressure and torque against depth to spot under-grouted or soft zones.
- Specialty Contracting
- Foundation contractors install the PIR on any drilling rig, including low-headroom rigs, to record grout volume and auger depth for every auger-cast pile.
- A printed installation log for each pile replaces hand-written field reports of pump strokes.
By phase
- Construction
- Every auger-cast or drilled displacement pile is monitored as it is installed, with the log printed at completion.
- After each shift, data downloaded to PIR-PLOT produces installation and productivity reports for the record.
