Trimble Business Center
About
Trimble Business Center (TBC) is desktop survey CAD software that turns raw field data from GNSS receivers, total stations, digital levels, laser scanners, drones and mobile mapping systems into finished deliverables. Surveyors adjust and post-process observations, classify point clouds and extract features, build surfaces, alignments and corridors, and export reports, CAD and GIS data. Civil contractors use it to prepare machine control models, run quantity takeoffs and mass-haul analysis, and check as-built data against design.
How teams use it
By audience
- Civil Engineering
- Civil engineers receive existing-ground surfaces and contours built from survey data as the base for site and roadway design.
- Roadway teams review cross-sections, superelevation and alignment templates when a design is converted into a constructible model.
- Estimator
- Civil estimators run cut and fill quantity takeoffs from digitized plans and surfaces to price earthwork bids.
- Mass-haul analysis shows haul distances and balance points so estimators can price trucking and borrow or waste.
- General Contracting
- Heavy civil contractors digitize PDF plans and build 3D surfaces and corridors that drive machine-controlled dozers and graders.
- Contractors compare as-built survey against design surfaces to track earthwork progress and support pay quantities.
- Specialty Contracting
- Earthwork and site subcontractors prepare machine control files and staking data in house instead of buying them from a surveyor.
- Utility and piling crews get utility models and drilling and piling plans prepared for setout in the field.
- Surveying/Geomatics
- Surveyors review rod heights and vector quality, then run least squares adjustment and GNSS baseline processing before issuing control.
- Field crews' total station, level, scan and UAV data land in one project, so blunders are fixed without re-exporting.
- Survey teams classify point cloud regions and extract linework and features into CAD for topographic deliverables.
- Surveyors publish large scan and mobile mapping point clouds to Trimble Connect for project teams to view in a browser.
By phase
- Design
- Survey teams process topographic, scan and UAV data into the existing-conditions surfaces and linework designers start from.
- GIS-bound survey features are exchanged with Esri ArcGIS for design and asset mapping.
- Pre-Construction
- Estimators take off earthwork quantities and run mass-haul analysis while pricing a civil bid.
- Contractors convert design files into machine control models and stakeout data before crews mobilize.
- Construction
- Field GNSS, total station and machine data are processed daily to check grade and update progress quantities.
- Monitoring data from instruments is compared against design to report deformation during construction.
- Survey crews record as-builts, including tunnel setout and as-built models on underground work.
