About
Amazon Redshift is AWS's managed cloud data warehouse, queried in SQL and run either as provisioned clusters or as serverless capacity that scales itself. It holds petabyte-scale structured data, queries open table formats such as Apache Iceberg and Parquet in place on object storage rather than copying them, and ingests from operational databases and streaming services without a separate pipeline. In AEC it sits downstream of the delivery tools, as the store a firm reports across projects from.
How teams use it
By audience
- IT & Systems Administration
- Provisions the cluster or serverless namespace the project systems load into, and holds the credentials those loaders authenticate with.
- Chooses provisioned capacity or serverless and sizes it, which is what the reporting bill actually turns on.
- Owns access control, because row-level and column-level permissions are what decide who can query which project's data.
- Decides what is copied into the warehouse and what is queried in place on object storage, which sets how fresh the project data is.
