Google Cloud Storage
About
Google Cloud Storage is Google Cloud's managed object storage for unstructured data, kept in buckets across Standard, Nearline, Coldline and Archive classes. Access is controlled per bucket and object through IAM, and stored data plugs straight into BigQuery and Google's AI tools. AEC firms and their software vendors use it as the storage layer behind their own platforms, data pipelines and long-term project archives.
How teams use it
By audience
- IT & Systems Administration
- IT teams create buckets, set IAM roles and lifecycle rules, and choose storage classes for the firm's project archives and backups.
- Firms keep large point-cloud, photogrammetry and model exports in Coldline or Archive buckets, where the per-GB cost is lowest.
- Data teams land files in Cloud Storage and load or query them from BigQuery for cross-project reporting.
- GIS and data-integration tools such as FME and ArcGIS Pro read and write the same buckets directly.
