About
Oracle NetSuite is a cloud ERP suite that construction and specialty-trade contractors run as their back-office system of record. Its construction configuration adds job costing by project, cost code and phase, percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, retainage, progress billing against a schedule of values and change-order cascades on top of core financials, procurement, inventory, CRM and field-service dispatch. Oracle delivers that configuration through its SuiteSuccess methodology on the same platform rather than as a separate SKU, and its own construction page notes that some of the capabilities described there require partner integrations.
How teams use it
By audience
- Accounting & Finance
- Runs percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, retainage and progress billing against a schedule of values, so WIP and commitments post to the ledger without a spreadsheet reconciliation.
- Closes multi-entity construction subsidiaries against ASC 606, multistate tax, lien-waiver and certificate-of-insurance rules held in the same system.
- Reads committed cost, cash position and margin by customer, region or business unit off live job-cost data rather than a month-old cost report.
- Project Manager
- Tracks labour, material, subcontract and equipment cost by project, cost code and phase against the estimate, with overrun flags and forecast updates as the job runs.
- Runs RFI and change-order workflows that cascade into commitments, budgets and revenue forecasts instead of being re-keyed into accounting.
- Reads milestone, resource-load and budget-versus-actual dashboards to catch schedule and margin slippage before it reaches the owner.
- Executive Leadership
- Reads live WIP, cash position and backlog across every active job from one system of record instead of consolidating divisional spreadsheets.
- Compares margin by customer, region and business unit to decide which work to chase and which to walk away from.
- Procurement & Purchasing
- Runs requisition-to-pay with purchase orders tied to a project and cost code, so committed cost appears the moment a subcontract or material order is issued.
- Plans and receives jobsite materials and prefab assemblies against demand, using vendor portals and mobile receiving to cut stockouts and maverick spend.
- Specialty Contracting
- Dispatches service and install crews from a drag-and-drop board, pushing work orders, drawings and parts availability to the mobile app.
- Captures field time and materials on mobile and syncs it to job costing and certified payroll, so a service call is costed the day it happens.
- Carries one customer timeline from first bid through completion and warranty service, which is the shape a specialty-trade contractor's book of work takes.
- IT & Systems Administration
- Administers a SaaS tenant — roles, OAuth credentials and Oracle's release cadence — rather than servers, with customisation done on the SuiteCloud platform.
- Publishes SuiteTalk REST endpoints and SuiteQL, which is what lets construction point solutions, warehouses and iPaaS platforms reach the ERP without middleware licences.
- Installs and governs SuiteApps from SuiteApp.com, which is where most construction-specific functionality on NetSuite actually comes from.
