About

Microsoft Entra ID is Microsoft's cloud identity service: the single sign-on, MFA and user-provisioning layer in front of a firm's cloud applications. Formerly Azure Active Directory, it is the directory behind every Microsoft 365 tenant and therefore the identity provider most AEC firms already own — which is why construction and design software vendors register SAML and SCIM listings in the Microsoft Entra gallery rather than build their own login. Entra ID is IT infrastructure rather than an AEC application: it performs no design, project or field work, but sits in front of Procore, Autodesk Construction Cloud, Bluebeam, Deltek and the rest of the stack deciding who may open them, granting a new hire the whole toolchain on day one and revoking it on the last. Its own capabilities are SSO, Conditional Access, multifactor and passwordless sign-in, Identity Protection, Privileged Identity Management, access reviews and automated user provisioning; the wider Microsoft Entra family (ID Governance, Private and Internet Access, Permissions Management, Verified ID) sits outside this record.

  • Enforces Conditional Access and MFA on project data reaching field tablets, joint-venture partners and subcontractors working from their own devices.
  • Provisions and deprovisions accounts automatically over SCIM: a new PM lands in every connected app on day one and loses access everywhere on the last.
  • Registers the firm's AEC vendor apps from the Microsoft Entra gallery, which is where construction and design software vendors publish their SAML and SCIM listings.
  • Gives IT sign-in and audit logs of who opened which project system and when — the evidence an owner's or insurer's security questionnaire actually asks for.
